High School Art Day-Friday April 22nd

The following studnets attended High School Art Day held at UW Oshkosh.

Students participate in Art Education student led workshops while their work is given valuable written feedback from UW Oshkosh Art Professors.  Four out of our ten Art participants were selected for the Art Show held on the third floor of the Reeve Union in the Steinhilber Gallery until this Saturday when awards will be given from 3:00-4:00pm.

Milwaukee Art Field Trip April 6th

We visited the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design to learn more about college programs in Art.

We also went to the Milwaukee Art Museum where we interacted with digital art, appreciated historical art as well as modern artists.  Their work inspired us to dream big and have time to appreciate the work others have sent off into the world.

Raku Firing 2016-April 14th

We had a successful outdoor Raku firing this past Thursday, April 14th.  We pit fired and applied horsehair to our burnished pieces as well as heated Raku glaze to a molten state, then placed it in reduction buckets to achieve the various copper, turquoise, black and crackle effects.

We fired 98 pieces successfully over a continuous feeding of the fire and reduction buckets during an 8 hour day.  14 students were supporting the firing process all day by gathering work to be fired and returning fired pieces to our locked display case.  Stuents also removed lids from the reduction buckets and fed the reduction with newspaper to create beautiful Rak effects.

Our t-shirts were made by Mrs. Yang in the spirit of "Racoon Fighting" which is what some students hear when you say we will be participating in... "Raku Firing."  We will be making more of these to sell at school and the Farmers Market.
