Raku Firing 2013
- Check out our photos and video from the Raku firing at Oshkosh North on January 3rd 2013.
- Ceramic students experienced the 1x per semster firing outdoors.
- Pieces were heated to maturity using propane, removed when the glaze became molten, placed in reduction buckets filled with sawdust and newspaper to burn and cool slightly, the remainder of the cooling takes place in the snow.
- Then students scrub all of the soot from the surface to reveal metallic, reflective, crackle, colorful effects.
- Fifty pieces were fired including wheel thrown bowls, cylinder, pinch pots and coiled sculptures.
